JL: So tall and big. He is loving his preschool and has made a couple of good friends. He is potty trained though still has the occasional accident. Can climb onto toilet himself and wash his own hands and put his own pants on with prompting. Loves the lightning mcqueen undies Aunt Winnie got him, but we force him to wear the regular ones, too. He love LM and often says ka-chow. Personally, I think we should move away from commercializing his preferences. We may be too late, with nai nai buying him all things CARS related. He already sleeps on a cars pillow and has cars books, toys, movie, stickers, etc. But surprisingly, we have held back and I am trying to cultivate some interest in non-cartoon related things. Like animals. He loves animals, thank goodness.
He also seems to be interested in kicking and throwing balls. Mikel is anxious to get him started on Soccer or some sport. I think he will like it, too. He gets excited when we drive by the soccer fields full of little kids playing.
His English is amazing. It has been awesome: Aunt Vicky and Uncle Ron have been a big part of the kids lives this summer. It is through his interactions with them that Mike and I get to hear his English. We are both always shocked at how much he speaks, bc we never speak to him in English. His Chinese is also excellent- far surpassed Mikel's, and his Spanish is ok. Mikel is going to work on expanding JL's vocabulary. Hopefully more time in Miami will help as well.
JL is also in a very whiny stage. We have to constantly remind him to stop fake crying and whining. It can be incredibly annoying. We have to put him in time out which in chinese is "standing in the bathroom." He knows that when he stops whining/crying he can come out so he doesn't stay in long. It's crazy how he can go from whining to super happy in the matter of seconds. It's infuriating sometimes. It is also hilarious bc when Lucy cries, he'll say "Lucy is being bad. She needs to stand in the bathroom." Lucy also fake cries and whines so maybe that isn't such a bad idea. But we haven't started the time outs for her yet. Mikel brought up the possibility of doing the 1-2-3- Magic. I need to read up on that method.
Otherwise, he is a very happy, curious, active, funny boy that loves to read and run around outside. He loves to play with Lucy, or at least boss her around. She doesn't seem to mind and seems to just like to be included. However, they do have somewhat different interests.
JL and Lucy both swell up with bug bites. It makes me limit their time outside bc it gets so brutal. Thanks to Uncle Ron for the bacteria pellet that is supposed to kill mosquito larvae- I threw one into the swamp behind our house.
JL can dress himself except his shirts. He and Lucy sleep in the same room. Go down a 8pm and up between 6-7am. They used to play a lot before bed, but I think the novelty has worn off and they just go to sleep now. JL actually reads some books to himself before sleeping. He sleeps WITH the books.

He eats very well and will eat all of his veges before others. Loves fruit and milk and water. We limit any sweets, but papi tries to sneak them things like chocolate. Bad papi.
Lucy: Lucy has recently started loving books as well. I had mentioned how she wasn't that into them at first and would even look at them upside down. At school, her lovely teachers have been reading a lot to her and at home she is obsessed with a LM book that Nai Nai bought JL. It is a look and find type book which they both love. JL is a little better at finding objects then Lucy but most of the time I still have to show them where the things are. Afterwards, JL can remember and then tell me where they are. They both love the High Five magazines as well.
Lucy is also saying lots of words including mama, nai nai, baba, bow bow, please (peeeese), cheese (cheeeese- easily confused with please), anya (a friend at school), no, and more. She uses sign language which she learned at school, and nods and shakes her head appropriately as well. She is very sassy and loves to be loud to make her needs clear. She and JL have been playing so well together. JL speaks to her in English- mostly- come here Lucy. Often he has very complex conversations with her and she just looks at him.
She is a voracious eater still. She will eat her meat first and needs to be prompted to eat her veges. Loves fruits esp blueberries. Well any fruit really. Both love nuts.
She is obviously still in diapers but will nod appropriately if I ask her if she's pooped. It was so easy to potty train JL that I am less nervous with Lucy. However, JL still needs a diaper at night.
Lucy has a big belly which I think makes her a little tipsy when walking. She falls down often, but gets around well. She is climbing stairs and running around a lot with JL.
She likes to swing now, which is also a new thing since daycare. Doesn't love it,but at least will sit in the swing.
She is super cuddly too and loves to sai nai. Mami is her favorite. Actually, I'm JL's favorite right now as well. Mikel has fallen off the chart. We'll see when nai nai comes next month how this will all play out. Mikel can be very short tempered and yells a lot more then me. I'm the one they run to and say " papi yelled at me!"
Overall, both are such darling and fun babies. We are so lucky and happy. Enjoying these toddler years.
